I am writing to express my deep concern about and opposition to any plans the Internal revenue Service has for relocating its facility outside the downtown Brockton. Abandoning a downtown area currently undergoing redevelopment as a Smart Growth urban center lacks foresight, coordinated planning and the kind of public, private, inter-governmental partnership that will lead Brockton and other cities through economic struggles and into rejuvenation. Both public and private investment has already successfully brought residential/retail renovation, public health and court facilities and plans for further mixed use development to the area in which the IRS now has offices. I most strongly urge all elected officials on state and federal levels and in the executive and administrative branche s of the United States government to bring pressure to bear on the General Services Administration and the IRS to make a commitment to this city and to urban renaissance projects like ours. Do not abandon Brockton. Stay and fight the good fight with us. |
