MIND BODY CLIMB THE HEALING TREE Quincy yoga center stresses mind, body, soul connection
The owners of Healing Tree Yoga and Wellness Center in Quincy feel that exercising the body is not enough for a healthy life. Mark and Kathy Keane want to provide a place for people to rejuvenate their weary souls. Stressing the importance of the mind, body, and soul connection, the yoga center offers an array of services including Hatha yoga and Pilates classes for the body; meditation for the mind; and Reiki and ear candling therapy for the soul. "We're trying to address the whole person," said Mark Keane. "We don't want to be the trend of the day." A yoga instructor throughout the South Shore for the past six years, Kathy teaches the majority of yoga classes at the center, which has been open since February. Classes last a little more than an hour and are offered throughout the day. The cost is $12 per class; $100 for a 10-class block; or $120 for unlimited monthly yoga and Pilates. "We work on strength, flexibility, and balance all at the same time, by combining breath into movement and postures," Kathy said. The yoga classes aren't just for the light, limber and experienced. Healing Tree offers special yoga classes for children, seniors and larger people. Massages are by appointment only. A one-hour session costs $65 for a therapeutic or relaxing massage, or $75 for a deep-tissue rubdown. Reiki is a Buddhist healing practice that enables a better energy flow throughout the body by simple massage techniques. Ear candles are used to cleanse the body and drive out negative energies.
