Several communities have local questions on the Nov. 7 ballot. They include:
Community Preservation Act

The Community Preservation Act, enacted by the Legislature in 2000, allows cities and towns to impose a property tax surcharge for land and historical preservation and the creation of affordable housing. Voters will decide if they want to adopt or repeal the tax.
The ballot asks residents to:
Repeal: Hingham
Adopt: Canton, Hull, Pembroke, Quincy, Rochester, Stoughton
Marijuana laws

Residents will be asked to vote on a non-binding policy question relating to marijuana use:
The ballot asks residents to:
Decriminalize small amounts: Plymouth, Kingston, Plympton, Duxbury precincts 1 and 6, Halifax precinct 1 and Middleboro precincts 1 and 5.
Allow medicinal use: Milton precincts 2 and 5-19, Randolph precincts 1, 2, 4, 7 and 8
Iraq pullout

A non-binding question asks the United States to stop the war and bring the troops home in:
Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, Scituate precinct 3, Bridgewater, Easton precinct 6 and Raynham
Rockland overrides

Proposed tax increases if town approves these Proposition 2½ overrides:
- $1.3 million to maintain town services. The owner of a home valued at $350,000 would pay an extra $228 in taxes per year.
- Two $250,000 increases, one to pay for a study to build a new middle school and the other to repair the library’s leaky roof. The same homeowner will pay an extra $46 for a single year if one passes and $91 if both pass.
