Greet Ace, the airport's mascot goose, before you go inside, and save a scrap of bread so you can give it to him on the way out. Get an overview of the small municipal airport, which is surrounded by scrubby vegetation.
CHECK IT OUT
Wander through the airport building and look at the aviation pictures on the walls. There are small aviation businesses on the first floor. If you're feeling brave, sign up for flying lessons.

QUICK BITES
The cozy Plane Jane Cafe on the second floor of the airport building offers great runway views through large windows and from an outdoor deck. The food is great, the people are congenial, and watching the planes take off and land is great fun. Dorothy Cole likes it so much that she drives down from Quincy several times a month to eat at the cafe.
RELAX
Sit back and relax with a cup of excellent homemade Grape Nuts custard while soaking up a completely different landscape far from the summer seaside tourist scene.
Had enough history? Seen enough shoreline? Tired of shops? Want a midday getaway that feels like one? This is the place for you.
Cost: $11 for a pork cutlet sandwich, a cup of killer clam chowder and an Arnold Palmer (lemonade and iced tea).
