Take advantage of one of the last days of fall with a brisk walk and some leaf peeping on the bridle path. Before you go, grab a bite, check out downtown construction and window-shop downtown. From Route 3, take a right onto Route 139 and then a right onto Webster Street. Park next to the skate park or in a parking lot off Snow Road.
Cost: $10 or less for a sandwich at Famous Pizza or Haymarket South
Time: 60 minutes
HARD-HAT ZONE
Grab a sandwich at Famous Pizza on Ocean Street or Haymarket South on Snow Road and meander past the Shops at Ocean’s Gate, a commercial development set to open next spring. Imagine what Marshfield Center will look like next year.
QUICK BITES
Cross Webster Street and head for the stone benches next to the skate park. Then take a peek in the nearby shops, which include A Second Time Around, Levitate Surf & Skate and Mono Mono Boutique.
RELAXING WALK
Cross Ocean Street and get onto the bridle path, a hiking trail that runs north along an old railroad bed. The path begins on the west side of the CVS parking lot and a short stroll takes you to a footbridge over the South River. Walk away from noisy construction and traffic and listen to the sound of the wind in the trees. Notice the orange, red, yellow and green foliage, the ripples on the river’s surface and the rocks on the river bottom. Take a deep breath and relax. Then turn around and head back to work.
