You don’t have to be an art connoisseur to enjoy the South Shore Art Center. The center is within easy walking distance of Cohasset Common and Cohasset Village, and there is municipal parking nearby.

Cost: Under $20, including voluntary gallery donation.

Time: It’s up to you. You could spend hours at the art center if you didn’t have to go back to work.

Check it out

The art center’s Bancroft Gallery offers a respite from the rat race. You can see the work of about 75 artists in the current “Fascinating Rhythms” exhibit. The adjacent Dillon Gallery is featuring an exhibit of photographs, paintings and drawings with a train theme. Gallery windows overlook the tracks on which the Greenbush commuter trains run.

Both exhibits will continue through March 30. A receptacle at the Bancroft Gallery suggests a $5 donation.

Quick bites

The galleries are handy to several restaurants. There is the Windsor Tea Shop and Tea Room, where a chicken salad sandwich with cup of four-bean salad costs $7.99. Goodfella’s pizza is another possibility. The Boys of Summer Ice Cream Co. is expected to reopen in the spring.

A short walk over to South Main Street opens up additional lunch possibilities: Cafe Zuppa, Atlantic Bagel & Coffee Co., Village Butcher & Deli and French Memories bakery.

Walk it off

Nearby Cohasset Common offers a picturesque setting for a stroll or a brisk walk. To save time, walk just around the common’s southern half. Park free in the municipal lot near the art center.
