BIO: Ciampa is a Milton native and 1984 graduate of Milton High School. She attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. In 1996, she took the Civil Service exam. She was hired by the Milton Fire Department in 1998 and soon received her EMT certification. Ciampa comes from a family of firefighters. Her father, John J. Grant Sr., was Milton fire chief from 1972 until his death in 1979. Her brother John Grant Jr. became Milton fire chief earlier this summer. She lives with her husband, Joe, and two daughters, Grace, 9, and Charlotte, 8, in Abington.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? "I wanted to be an illustrator or graphic artist."

What would you have been if not a firefighter? "I would have gone back to my artist roots."

Best advice you ever got:"If you don't try new things and push yourself, you will never know what you are truly capable of."

Person who gave it to you: "My mom."

What do you do in your spare time? "My family and I love to go camping and ride our bikes."
