Association of Volleyball Professionals
2007 Boston Open

It’s as much a summer celebration as it is a sporting event. It’s a dazzling mix of sand, sun, sweat, sound and, yes, sex appeal.

It’s the Association of Volleyball Professionals Crocs pro beach volleyball tour, and its in Quincy this week, bringing with it some of the finest-conditioned athletes on the planet, a portable stadium, and 2,200 tons of sand. And tons of fun, too.

The tour is making a rare foray into New England as the Bob’s Stores Boston Open settles into Marina Bay for a four-day run. The event features 32 men’s teams and 32 women’s teams (in the main draws) competing on seven courts for a total purse of $280,000.

The Boston Open promises to bring a little bit of California to Marina Bay, four days of fantastic athletic competition blending with fun and frolicking, giving New Englanders a taste of the lifestyle experience that is pro beach volleyball.

She and partner Denisse DeNecochea have placed third seven times this season and advanced to last night’s third round against Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan. More ...
