I've started thinking about the comments regarding Womynzone and I started wondering ... do we really need to be serious all of the time?
I love clothes, shopping, beauty rituals, spas and lots of "girlie" things. I also love business, banking and world affairs. I'm married, no children, but I do have a dog. I consider myself a contemporary woman who knows who I am and where I am going. I work full time and I have a jewelry business. I cook dinner every night, clean the house, do laundry and sometimes I even ride the John Deere tractor to cut the lawn.
Not to say that my husband doesn't help, he's my partner and we work together as a team. He even likes to shop!
And, speaking of "my husband likes to shop" - does that make him any less of a man? He also bakes and loves to cook. But he doesn't have to prove himself to anyone, and neither do we.
Why is it that men can talk about sports all the time with their co-workers, friends and family and it's not considered "degrading" to men? If a top woman executive talks about getting a manicure and pedicure, or getting excited about the newest fashion trend does that make her any less powerful?
But we are so caught up in our careers and the seriousness of life that we don't always sit down to enjoy some "fluff" and "fun" once in a while. I believe that we can have both and I believe that woMYnzone can be a great way for all of us to empower one another and have fun at the same time. Just because we enjoy shopping, being "girlie" sometimes and perhaps have taken a shot at pole dancing, does not make us less of a woman and does not set us back 50 years. It just means we know who were are now and no longer have to wear a men's suit to prove it.
I say we all lighten up ... have fun, be serious when you have to.
