Occupation: Soon-to-be retired librarian at the Abington Public Library. Reid is the ultimate volunteer. Her volunteer work extends from her church to all aspects of the community. She was recently named Abington High School alumni of the year.
Proudest Accomplishments
I am very proud of having worked side by side with many other dedicated Abington residents to see many dreams become realities. I am referring to the building of a town hall and public library 10 years ago and the completion of the Millennium Memorial Complex project that included a track and bandstand. I was most involved in the bandstand portion because I had always wanted the people of Abington to be able to experience the joy of listening to live music.
Perfect Day
A perfect day for me is enjoying live music outdoors on a beautiful summer’s day or evening with family and friends. I’m not too fussy about the music style, but just watching musicians putting their hearts and souls into a performance is an enjoyable experience for me. If one of my sons, a professional saxophonist, just happens to be in the band performing, then I would really be enjoying the day!
Looking Forward
As of March 1, I am looking forward to retirement from my duties as an assistant librarian at the Abington Public Library where I have worked for the past 25 years. My husband and I are really looking forward to spending more time with family and friends. I also hope to continue serving on the Abington Summer Concerts Committee for many years to come so I can help bring more bands and music ensembles for the people of Abington to enjoy.
Pass it on
Something that has helped me on my life’s journey has been my faith in God and a positive attitude. I urge others not to be afraid to try new ideas or to dream. With faith and a positive attitude, the dream can become a reality. Also, for a really great reward, be involved in your community. “Many hands make light work,” and dreams do come true.
