Proudest Accomplishments
Starting the Good Friday Walk in 1972 is something I do feel good about, but it doesn’t feel like my accomplishment. I suppose I can take credit for saying ‘yes’ when I experienced that nudge from God to do something to help malnourished children in the Mississippi Delta, but everything else that has flowed from that yes is the work of the Spirit. As I prepare for my 37th Walk, I am humbled by the realization of all the love that has been generated through the years. So many of us have been gifted in so many ways.
Perfect Day
A June day spent with Ron DuBois, my husband, at the boat house we have been fortunate enough to rent for many years. It is a beautiful spot at the edge of Lake Dunmore in Vermont. The day would include a visit from Colleen and Jeff Benevides, daughter and son-in-law, and their 3-year-old twins, Rosalie and Jenson; and daughter Janine Tausevich and her husband Scott, and daughter Michelle Doherty.
Looking Forward
As of the day I wrote this, I have already received 26,084 gifts of life! Yet I hope to be given many more days to be ‘Geema’ to Rosalie and Jenson - receiving their love and loving them fiercely in return.
Pass it on
Lately I’ve been feeling surrounded by death. During the past year or so, Sharing and I have lost, as far as I know, 24 friends/supporters, including my dearest friend. This has brought the preciousness of today even more present to me. Emerging from my reflections on death/life, these words have become my daily mantra:
“Open wide the windows of your heart. Welcome the day with humble, grateful awe. Begin to gently gather its time into your being. Intend to add to it those things that are meaningful that increase love, joy, happiness, justice, that diminish sorrow, pain, suffering.”
