BROCKTON — A city father of two is preparing to launch a campaign to oust long-term School Committee member Maurice Hancock from his Ward 1 seat.
Thomas J. Minichiello Jr., 41, whose children Matthew and Gregory are both students in the city's public school system, said it's time that parents were given a voice in the system, and he hopes to provide that.
“There needs to be accountability for decisions that dramatically impact curriculum and teaching methodology,” he said. “Parents have a right to know what their children are being taught and the decisions being made behind closed doors that influence the quality of education their children receive.
“The main reason I'm running is that I have two children, a first and a fourth grader. My loyalty and focus is mainly on providing the most resources for the kids.”
Minichiello is a life-long resident and a product of the city school system himself, attending Ashfield Elementary, East Junior High and Brockton High, where he graduated in 1983.
He went on to graduate from Boston University and the Vermont Law School and is now a real estate attorney.
Minichiello is married to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Volta.
He is kicking off his campaign at George's Cafe at 228 Belmont Street, on June 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets, $20 per person or $35 per family, are available on the door.
