BROCKTON— A candidate for the Ward 6 City Council seat has dropped out of the race.
Marianne Dodero, an assistant chief court officer for the Brockton Trial Court, said she cannot run for political office due to work restrictions.
Dodero, 49, who ran to address crime in the city, said she had contacted the state Ethics Commission last year and her work supervisors, and had received permission to run for office.
But after her March fundraiser, Dodero said she received a letter from Chief Justice Robert A. Mulligan of the Massachusetts Trial Court in May.
The letter stated she would have to take a leave of absence to run for office, or she “had to move my job out of Plymouth County,” she said.
Dodero said she contemplated her choices until now.
“I am really sorry if I let any of my supporters down. I really wish I could have pursued this campaign,” Dodero said.
The remaining candidates vying for the Ward 6 Council seat are incumbent Michelle DuBois and Larry Curtis Jr., said Elections Commissioner John McGarry.
McGarry said Dodero can keep her committee active by filing a financial report with the city.
Dodero, who plans to keep her campaign fund open for a future political run, said she plans to contact her supporters to ask them if they want their political contribution returned.
Anyone with any questions may call Dodero at 508-269-8699.
